Abstract

The focus of this work is to develop a method using harmonic balance method (HBM) to calculate the effectiveness of friction damper in rotating seal. This is achieved by using macro slip model technique. A scheme is proposed for evaluating effectiveness of friction damper through quality factor (Q) calculation. The variation of friction coefficient, different viscous damping coefficient, different excitation forces and different rotational speed are taken into consideration.
