Design and Development of Iontophoresis Power Supply and Data Acquisition System Using AVR Microcontroller

Abstract

Flexible and user friendly low cost AVR microcontroller based Iontophoresis power supply and data acquisition with computer interface is designed, constructed, tested and is presented. Most of the Iontophoresis study based experiments need monitoring of some parameter like, conductivity, to this effect the power supply is equipped with a Data Acquisition System (DAS). The computer side program processes the incoming data and stores in computer files for further use in suitable format. The two way communication between the microcontroller and the computer side controlling program is implemented using serial port in RS232 configuration. Newer PC’s are not equipped with serial ports and laptops rarely have a serial port, to this effect, a USB to serial converter is used so that the instrument can directly be attached to USB port of a computer or laptop for control and data acquisition.
