Abstract

The study details the fatigue life prediction of a Connecting rod using finite element method. The objective of the work is to assess the critical fatigue locations of the component due to cyclic loading conditions. The effect of mean stress on the fatigue life has also been investigated. Materials SAE1045-450-QT, SAE1045-595-QT is considered to represent the connecting rod. Total-life approach and Crack initiation approach have been applied to predict the fatigue life of the connecting rod. The comparison between the total–life approach and crack initiation approach were also been investigated.
